Red Sun?

Last night at sunset, the sun was a vibrant red. We tried to get a photo, but it was hard to get from our apartment, or the parking lot.
So this was the best we could do ..
I wonder why it looks like this when it gets fast out from the wildfires nearby?
Do you notice that where you are? know what causes it?

The atmosphere can make it look different colors. It looked pink here when we had a lot of that smoke

I've noticed it pink sometimes, just was surprised with the vivid red it was last night

The sun appears red during sunrise and sunset due to the scattering of light in the Earth's atmosphere, which filters out shorter wavelengths and allows longer wavelengths, like red, to dominate. This effect is more pronounced when the sun is lower on the horizon.
It doesn't happen here very much

I thought it had to do with the haze because I've only ever seen it red during wild fire season
We almost did miss it. It was up high when I was driving home, but I couldn't capture it obviously
