Today’s song is responsible for next month’s theme. It may also be responsible for a little head scratching on your part. The last two days I’ve had two of my all-time favorite singers…ranked below this. Life and music are strange! Here’s today’s song. #2: Louisiana Rain - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers This song doesn’t mention New Orleans, but that’s where we’re going next month. But for the moment, we’re going to enjoy my favorite Tom Petty song. By a good mile. Damn the Torpedoes was Petty’s breakthrough album. I was already familiar with Petty because I was in Florida and he was from Florida, so as a “local” talent he got played a lot before the rest of the world caught up. But wow, this album. What a killer. And then, at the end, after all that great music, there’s this closing song. I could not stop playing this song. I could not stop playing this entire album. There are songs that you like, songs that you love, and songs that you remember exactly how you felt when you first heard it. That’s me and this song. Thanks, Tom.
