Firefighters rescue 2 persons who were inside of a house fire in Maine

Two firefighters who were on vacation in Scarborough Maine were at the right place at the right time on Tuesday of last week when they saw a house on fire on Sea Meadows Lane while they were on their way to Old Orchard Beach. The two firefighters stopped their auto when they saw smoke coming from the home. The two firefighters then saw fire going up the rear of the house and climbing to the roof line. Both firefighters entered the burning home and they saw two adults sleeping on the floor. The firefighters woke up the two adults and rescued them by getting them out of the building safely. The firefighters then used a garden hose and a fire extinguisher to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings in the area. The Scarborough Fire Department arrived to put out the fire with the assistance of the Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Portland and South Portland Fire Departments. Only one firefighter suffered minor injuries which required a visit to a local hospital to be evaluated and released the same day. The State Marshal's Office and the Scarborough Code Enforcement Office determined that the cause of the fire was an accident. Thank goodness for the firefighters who took time off from their vacation to rescue two residents who were inside of a burning building since firefighters are needed even when they off the clock.
