Once again, it’s time to “Get down, everybody.” In fact, it’s the final time - this music series of songs with “Get down” in the lyrics is over. “Get down, everybody” is key here; it’s one of two total lyrics in the entirety of “Shaolin Satellite” by Thievery Corporation. Thievery Corporation is an electronic chill-out music duo, Eric Hilton and Rob Garza, from Washington, D.C., formed in 1995. Called “a couple of sonic pickpockets whose insatiable thirst for sampling encompasses genres as disparate as hip-hop, dub, easy listening and all manner of samba beats currently nestling on their hi-fi” by The Guardian, Thievery Corporation is one of the biggest chill-out acts going. They are phenomenal in concert - Hilton does not tour, but Garza tours with a full band and multiple vocalists. There’s an undeniable groove to the laid-back tune, taken from their 1996 debut, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi (as chill as the album is, it still reached #12 on the Billboard U.S. Top Dance Albums chart.) Especially considering that the drumming is very military/marching band-precise in style, it’s still danceable. It is possible to chill while you get down, you know.
