I was right about arming teachers

People have been talking about teachers having guns for years and years. I have always thought that it was a terrible idea and have said many times that I would quit my job before packing heat at work. Not only do teachers provide instruction but they monitor halls, watch the cafeteria, counsel/mentor students, discipline students, etc. It is not their job to also be part of a school's security detail. But America has this gun fetish so many people think it is a good idea for teachers to be armed as well. Forget the cost of the weapons, ammunition, training, and practice. I mean we can't afford to buy textbooks or science equipment but sure let's spend money on that stuff. My argument has always been that if there was an active shooter situation the police and SWAT team is not going to stop to see if someone brandishing a gun is a "good guy" or a "bad guy". They are just going to neutralize them and move on. I mean that isn't their fault when they are trying to deal with such a situation but that is the sad reality. If you are a teacher with a weapon drawn you're done for. Yesterday I was watching the news and former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe was being interviewed. You know what he said? Exactly what I said in the above paragraph. The cops are going to kill you if you have a gun drawn in an active shooter situation. People who don't teach think the solution is to have teachers with guns. I guess they think that our lives are disposable. It is one thing when you sign up to be in law enforcement or the military. You know the potential risks. Teachers didn't sign up to sacrifice ourselves. We signed up to teach.
