Almost Like a Book from the World Beyond

Going through some things, I discovered that I still have a small notepad my dad used to jot stuff down and addresses. As you can see, it is from 1944, so it means that he brought it and used it during his time in the DP Camps in Germany. Imagine this little notepad survived NYC traveled in my stuff to Latvia where I do not even remember having it and came with me to Florida, It's nothing short of a miracle. Perhaps it is a special way for my dad to remind me of him but I would never forget anyway,

I have my grandfather's copy of the Song of Hiawatha
He got it in 1922
I won't part with it
It's part of us both and he is nearby because i have the book

Oh, how precious that is! I have some books that my mom read and wrote notes in the page margins. I would NEVER, but I'm glad she did, because it let me share her world a little more even after she was gone.

@RasmaSandra did he use a language other than Latvian, or is it more that his handwriting is a little hard to decipher? My dad's handwriting was a little challenging, but I was used to it, so that helped.

@toniganzon it has to be the tight bond my dad and I had until he passed away when I was ten. I could not tell anyone where the little book was kept in any of the places I lived in but here it is with me in Florida

@wolfgirl569 surely a sign that the bond between my dad and me cannot be broken. You know I inherited my poetic and writing creativity from him, and some days I get inspired to write poems, and my hands literally fly over the keys and when done I have to read what I have written and I know Dad helped,

Thats a great keepsake and a way to feel like your dad is close. I have a few handwritten notes from my mom that just touches my heart when I see her handwriting

@Shiva49 I found a whole batch of letters and correspondence Dad kept up with friends during WW II and those I have disposed of, All those people are now a thing of the past,
