A five year old girl was at the Newark (New Jersey) Branch Brook Park on Sunday afternoon when she sneaked away from the presence of her grandfather who was buckling a relative of hers inside of their family auto.
The girl fell into a lake near the boathouse on the southern part of the park when bystanders and Essex County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) police officers went to the lake to rescue the girl out of the lake.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) employees took her by ambulance to the nearby University Hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in her time in the lake.
The good news is that the girl was conscious and breathing when she was rescued by the bystanders and police officers.

Just don't understand the grownups. The grandpa should have made sure she was within sight even when doing something else,

Well done to the people who rescued her
Do we know how long the girl has been in the water for?

Most likely a few minutes since she was conscious when the police and bystanders rescued her,
