Newark New Jersey teenagers named Rafaela Cura, 18, and her fellow lifeguard Khayla Dixon-Hammond, 18, credit their training as lifeguards used their training to save the life of a 13 year old boy who suffered a seizure in the swimming pool on Thursday morning at the Marquis "Bo" Porter Recreation Center when the boy suffered a seizure while he was swimming in the pool.
Rafaela and Khayla were on duty when they answered the emergency call to save the boy with Rafaela used compressions while Khayla used ventilations while using Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive the boy who did recover after five cycles.
The boy after he came to his senses was taken by an ambulance to Newark Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation.
Newark mayor Raj S Baraka is praising the two lifeguards for saving the life of the boy since the city trained the lifeguards who admitted that they were nervous when they gave the boy CPR.
Nice to see teenagers assisting a person in need and saved a life.
