What comes with a breakup? Heartache. That’s where we are in today’s edition of Where Did Our Love Go? It’s all in the title. “Heartache” by Gene Loves Jezebel. “They say a little bit of heartache never hurt anyone.” See, Michael (Aston, the vocalist on this tune,) stay positive! Be strong! It never hurt anyone. “How come I’m crying over you?” Oh, Michael. You were so close! He’s even trying to give himself hope - “Maybe she just cannot see,” but no, still crying over her, still dying over her. Twin Welsh brothers Jay and Michael Aston were (here’s where it gets confusing) the founders and leaders of Gene Loves Jezebel. They can’t stand each other and split up in 1990. Jay kept recording and touring under the band name. Michael started recording and touring under the band name. Michael sued Jay. Michael sued Jay again. Both bands are legally known as “Gene Loves Jezebel” inside the countries in which they operate. Jay’s version is legally known in the U.S. as “Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel.” Michael’s version is legally known in the U.K. as “Michael Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel.” Anyway, “Heartache” was released in 1986, four years before the split. So, while a “two brothers break up and feel sad” story might, in theory, work out fine, this is not the case. Unless Michael had a time machine or something. Link is to the official video:
