A Sad Anniversary

Today is the 30th anniversary of my mom's death. She passed away from pancreatic cancer only five months after diagnosis. I've lost both of my parents to cancer - my dad died from lung cancer in 2007, so it's been a while for both of them. I was very close with my mom, and I miss her so much, even though she's been dead for more than half of my life. She still lived long enough to see me through college, married to my husband and settling into a nice home, so I'm glad she didn't die worried about me. I got to say goodbye to both of my parents, even though it was terribly sad. If you still have your parents, call them, go see them, give them a hug and tell them you love them. You really never know how much time you have. Mom was also an artist. She always encouraged me and taught me.

I realize that not everyone has a good relationship with their parent/s, but I know that you do have people who care about you.

@Ineeddentures what about your father? Was she the Bette Davis horror movie type or the Joan Crawford?

Oh, man. That hurts my heart. She certainly WAS talented, and I am SO glad she saw you graduate and get married. I still have my dad, and I never let him forget how much I love him.

That's very sad that you lost your Mom so long ago. Pancreatic cancer rarely gives anyone more than a few months. She would be pleased at how much artistic talent you have.

Thank you, yes, it's a particularly deadly one. Fortunately, she did know that, as I actually went to the same art school that she did.

I really don't like thinking about my parents not being there, but I realize I am blessed to have had them as long as I have. Sorry for your loss, even though it was a long time ago.

Thank you. It was a long time ago, but even though the grief is gone, the sadness lingers.

I miss my mom lots too. I was glad that I had taken her back to her homeland, Latvia. Since when we started living there she only had two years left and I never expected that so at least she was laid to rest beside the love of her life my dad,
