This guy. He’s lost. Today’s edition of Where Did Our Love Go? features another poor soul lost after a breakup. It’s by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Band - The Cars, and their minor hit “Since You’re Gone.”
This guy. Nothing’s making sense to him, it’s all a mess. He’s tripping over the shade for goodness sake. Oddly, this is pretty upbeat for a breakup tune. Vocalist Ric Ocasek sounds almost a bit playful at times. The video is even kind of amusing. And yet, our guy can’t help it. He’s throwing everything away. Did I mention he’s stumbling around in the shade? He is.
“Since You’re Gone” is the leadoff track to The Cars’ 1981 album, Shake it Up. You might say the album did well. Sailing on the strength of its big-hit title track, Shake it Up is certified Double Platinum in the United States. This was the tour I saw the band on, they opened with “Since You’re Gone,” in fact. This was in 1981, mind you. I’ve got a plethora of concerts under my belt since that time. The Cars were the loudest concert I’ve seen. You might scoff - I mean, who suspects The Cars as being loud AF? But my ears are still metaphorically ringing from that show!

@Ronrybs - Although why they left it off of a "Best of" comp is beyond me.

@teamfreak16 — yep. I listened to that first album A LOT while I was secured in the barracks during Hurricane David. Welcome to Navy life.

@FourWalls - When I bought this copy, I hadn't listened to the album in a long time. I'd forgotten how good it is.

It was a minor hit, which means basically it was an album cut. Unless you've heard the entire album, you might not know it.
