The things we take for granted

So, it's 4:12pm in my neck o of the Woods, and today was one of those days where work really took over. I rushed through online gigs with tight slots, then lunchtime came around.
The food I bought yesterday had meat that was so hard it left my teeth aching, so now I can't even eat meat.
Visiting my stepdad in the hospital yesterday, and seeing him struggle to swallow even water, really stayed with me.
It made me think about how we take for granted the ability to chew, to swallow, just to breathe. Things that we don't even think of as blessings, but they're priceless.
Today I'm reminded to be grateful for the gift of life, of good health, and the basic ability to eat. Even if life isn't perfect and money isn't where we want it to be, being healthy enough to breathe, swallow, and enjoy a meal is worth thanking God for.
I'm about to call my mum to check on how my stepdad's doing, and I'm hoping for continued improvement. I hope everyone's doing okay. Don't forget to appreciate the simple blessings, we often overlook them. They may be the greatest gifts we have.

It's true, as fussed as I am about having arthritis in my hip, that's nothing compared to someone struggling with an autoimmune disorder that inflames ALL their joints.

There's a lot of stuff we don't miss until they are gone

That is right, and so many things like that we fail to notice until they are taken away.

We do tend to neglect the little things we should be grateful about when we are still able. Then come to regret it when the time comes that we don't have the same faculties we used to.
