Snoopy first appeared in Charles Schulz's Peanuts comic strip on October 4, 1950.That was two days after the strips debut. He had loosely based Snoopy on a black and white dog he had when he was a teenager. He was originally going to use the name 'Snippy' until he saw a comic magazine featuring a dog of the same name. So finding himself in the need of a name he remembered his mom commented that they should name their next dog Snoopy.
