2026 Monthly Goal Results - May

May was actually a pretty productive month, for me. I read another Patricia Cornwell book, From Potter's Field, and I also read a nonfiction book from an author whose fiction I have really enjoyed, the Japanese author Haruki Murakami. The book is called What I Talk about when I Talk about Running, and it is a memoir about his life and his vocation as a writer seen through the lens of his training for various marathons and triathlon competitions. I found it interesting, but my impression is that he is very odd, obsessive, and probably a pretty difficult guy to know in real life. I'm going to stick to the fictionalized version.
Besides fulfilling my goal to finish two books, I doubled my goal of finishing two pieces of art. I drew a pencil portrait of Prince that I have already shown you, but I also drew an illuminated manuscript version of a long passage in E. L. Doctorow's book City of God (that book's going to show up here when I finally finish it), so since I don't believe I shared that before, here is part of it.

Thanks! I do think my goals are pretty modest, but they do keep me going from one month to the next.

I have to give my husband a lot of credit for being extremely self-sufficient.

It was definitely a good month! I have no idea how well I would do at these things if I were still working.
