In my corner of this little kingdom I've called into the local library to get out of the rain. I've bagged myself a computer in the computer suite, sanitised my hands, the keyboard and the surrounding area and here I am ready to commune with you all. I've become quite particular about hygiene in public places - who knows where the fingers of the last person to use this keyboard have been, and did they wash them afterwards? And now I'm concerned about eggs. A few hundred cases of salmonella have been reported in the UK recently, one victim having died. These cases have been traced to imported eggs but no-one is saying where the eggs have been imported from. (Terminal preposition alert) Authorities are only willing to say that British laid eggs are fine. Symptoms include diarrhoea, cramps, fatigue and malaise, none of which are recommended for someone who will be cooped up in an airplane for a few hours next week. And now the German language has been dropped from the Northern Irish school syllabus. It's because only 49 kids took it this year. Schools can still offer it, but they will have to use an English syllabus and exam body. Personally I'd have dropped maths.
