And that's how he became independent...

Sister and I went out for dinner last night with our respective sons. Mel, my nephew mentioned about going to China next summer with his friends. But then he changed his mind but sister said his friend Neo is already going so he must. Mel is quite independent for his age compared to other kids. When his mom told him he should teach Neo how to become independent his response was: Neo should tell his parents to fight all the time! So that's why he never wants to come home and he would rather stay with Craig in the condo.

Read through comments. Living on his own since 9? How does he do that? Who pays for the condo?

@kareng His school is just across from his condo. He just orders food online. His cousins live next door by themselves as well so sometimes he would eat with them. Now he stays with my son. They do get along well.

Yes of course. My son never thought of that when he was at that age.

It is important to learn from a young age to be independent.

Right and Mel is very independent. He is starting to earn his own money by selling candies to his classmates.
