Something strange about this Summer.

Every Summer is a bit different here. We used to have doves everywhere. Some even used my balcony for "flight school" when the baby doves were big enough. Now we have crows instead. No doves. Until this year, we also had raccoons, starting in the Spring. They would visit my place and try to get to kitty's food. One night I awoke to a raccoon trying to drag Kitty's bag of dry food out of the sliding glass balcony door. I always gently chased the raccoons away. This Spring and Summer, I have seen no raccoons at all. Do you have shifts in animal populations where you live?

I don't think so. We always see rabbits and squirrels playing in the back yard and sparrows, robins and crows in our back yard.

@TheHorse Do you have robins in California? Other than people named Robin? People don't count.

Yes in rabbits! We used to see them in the yard until Duke came along. Although he is secluded to a certain area of the yard, they still do not come around here anymore. I find it the same on the highway. Used to always see them and hardly ever now. We did see one run across the road last night, but it is now an unusual sight. The coyotes are still in the woods. Haven't seen any lately, but had a gang try to get in the chicken coop last year at night. We ran them off and I hear them singing in the woods at night often.

We had bunnies and coyotes out at the horse place. I don't see them this far into our suburban sprawl.

@TheHorse With their habitats being taken down everywhere it is no wonder really.

We seem to. I have only spotted a few raccoons on the trail cameras this year. A couple of years ago it was almost every night. Also only seen one opossum this year so far. But we are seeing more deer and rabbits

I get a lot of feral cats at night on my porch and my favorite possum seems to be sending his kid now, Last night a small cute possum arrived and I tossed him a sausage,
