Just had a months HBO /Sky TV on download (£9.99) and managed to squeeze a season of Peacemaker in before the month ran out. I wanted the channel to see the Commonwealth Games here and also took the chance to finish the final two seasons of Billions ( great show), and for my gangster fill saw the Gomorrah (Italian show) spin off, Origins, plus Gangs of London, the crass British TV drama. The last two are hard to really recommend as the first doesn't have enough blood and guts in it and the latter too much. Peacemaker is superhero stuff, the DC Universes this time around, John Cena as Peacemaker, a muscle bound idiot that heads a ragtag bunch of crime fighters saving the Earth. The action and acting is so-so and the plot somewhat silly but a surprisingly unpo-faced DC show as the humor remains center stage. Big lug Cena is fine in the lead and ethnic and the now perfunctory diversity casting to back him up, a prominent lesbian black couple the notable drift from the original comic book character. The best bit by far is the constant hair metal soundtrack, my kind of music back then , the only reason I managed to race through the 8 episodes of season one, from Cinderela to Poison, Motley Crue to Hanoi Rocks... The catchy and quirky opening sequence is a pointer to where the show goes where the cast dance to an obscure Norwegian rock band and track, which did great things for that rock band ,Wig Wam, who were washed up way back in 2010 but this show somewhat forcefully reviving their career some 15 years later. You can imagine their faces when a multimillion dollar HBO show opens with 'Do you wanna taste it' by Wig Wam , a catchy melodic rock number with John Cena dancing to it in an all American superhero suit. So if you like the comic book stuff and 80s rock music then there is plenty here for you. If not then it's probably not for you. If you have a week left on your tv download package then maye burn through it like I did. It gets crazy high ratings and reviews on-line. Maybe the reviewers are all middle aged Y& T fans... who knows...
