Surely at some point in your single days, assuming you are either now married or in a committed relationship, you exchanged phone numbers with someone you were interested in dating. That’s where we are in today’s edition of the number series. Phone numbers.
“Baby Don’t Forget My Number” was a huge hit for German pop group Milli Vanilli. By now most people know the Milli Vanilli story - frontmen Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus (R.I.P.) didn’t sing on the album, they merely lip synced and danced. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, only to have the Grammy revoked after the truth came out. Their songs were pulled from radio play. They had to refund money after several class action lawsuits.
Forget about all of that. The truth is, All or Nothing was a damn good album. I won’t hesitate to buy it if I ever come across a copy. They were actually defended by a music critic at the time (I forget who,) who basically said that rock music is at least partially about image, and Milli Vanilli created an image to go with the music. Good for them, I say.
How big of a hit was “Baby Don’t Forget My Number?” All it did was chart in 15 countries, reaching the Top 20 in all of them, Top 5 in six. It’s a fun tune, well produced, and as far as I’m concerned, the band deserved the accolades, no matter who was actually singing.

They were huge in Germany when I was stationed there the first time. You'd hear their songs everywhere. I'll defend them.

And it blew up quickly in their faces.

It's cool that you're also still a fan. A lot of people jumped off the bandwagon after. I still like them.
