Involving myself in my Aunt's affair

Lately, I’ve been involved in my aunt’s situation, initially tasked with finding a good home care facility for her. Everyone in the family seems to be experiencing caregiver fatigue. My older sister, who provides financial support, is stressed about her condition despite living far away. I’ve been handling the logistics for now, but recently things took a turn when it was decided she would return to the province to be cared for by relatives and friends instead of an institution. I think this is a practical way to care for an aging relative who has no immediate family, especially since she’s been single all her life. Home care costs in the city are quite high. Now, I’ll be managing her bank account to cover her needs and medication. It’s a bit stressful taking on this new responsibility, but I feel I need to step up and support her.

I am so glad you are helping care for your aunt in this way. Sometimes, looking in my future as a single person, I wonder what will happen to me if I make it to the point of needing a caregiver and my older sister is no longer alive. I have two nieces I hope will not let me go to a two bit home where they care little about their patients. I hope they will make sure someone provides adequate care for me. So thank you for watching out for your aunt.

Thank you for the appreciation. Sometimes I feel like what I do for her isn’t enough, but as a niece to an aunt who has no one else to rely on, I believe this is my way of contributing to the collective effort to make her life as comfortable as possible.

At first, it was my sister who sent help, but eventually, she asked for my assistance with things she couldn’t handle herself. Now, with the support of her siblings, who are also seniors, we’ve managed to mobilize, and at least things are progressing elsewhere.

The old in India are facing the same problem. Lot of us are staying alone while our children are working in some other city or country.

Thanks, and culturally we don’t favor sending our seniors to a facility to spend their days with strangers. At least with this new arrangement, she’s going to family where she truly belongs. Spending her final stage of life with loved ones is the right thing to do.

Your aunt is very lucky to have family willing to take her in and support her. Kudos to you all.

Home care costs are high here as well
It can cost as much as £1500 per week on a care home for a single person
People have to sell houses to cover the cost of care
