I’m pulling an all-nighter tonight. By my estimation, I’ve pulled more all-nighters than not this summer. I was on You Tube, and this one popped up in my recommendations feed. It’s the first time I’ve seen the video, but I lived it. I was there. Wingtips are a darkwave duo from Chicago, consisting of Vincent Segretario and Hannah Avalon. If you close your eyes, you might notice that Vincent’s vocals sound eerily similar to The Cure’s Robert Smith. This show took place 11/05/2024 at HQ in Denver, Colorado. It was a night we had a raging snowstorm outside, while we were nice and dry and watching a fabulous darkwave band inside. I was there to see British goth legends, The March Violets. Wingtips was a last-minute addition to the bill, which also included English hard rock band, Die So Fluid. Remember when I mentioned the snowstorm? While Die So Fluid was starting to set up, the storm knocked the power out for four blocks, including HQ’s. We all hung out, waiting for the power to return, but after about 15 minutes of that, we were asked to wait outside for safety reasons. Eventually, we learned that the city was not going to be able to get the power restored in a reasonable time, and the rest of the show was cancelled. Refunds would begin processing as soon as possible. While I didn’t get to see the band I went to see, and I was wanting to check out Die So Fluid as well, I did end up getting what turned out to be a great free set by a band I hadn’t heard of. Now I’m a fan. And all I had to do was brave a little (okay, a lot) of snow. Link is to a video of the performance. My head pops up multiple times:
