This is another song written by Dolly Parton and her uncle, Bill Owne. The song was released and recorded by the American country artist Skeeter Davis in 1967.
This was the song that helped establish Dolly as a major country music star and she signed a recording contract. For Skeeter Davis it became her first major hit in two years. The song is featured on her album What Does It Take (To Keep a Man Like You Satisfied).
Dolly recorded the song as well and featured it on her album Hello, I’m Dolly.

I always enjoy finding out the story behind these older country songs. It is interesting how a song can be a turning point in an artist’s career, and this one clearly played an important role in Dolly Parton establishing herself. I also like hearing the different versions artists give to the same song. Dolly’s own recording must have been interesting to compare with Skeeter Davis’s version.

@RasmaSandra I agree, there is something special about hearing Dolly sing her own songs. She just has that voice and style that makes the songs feel even more personal.
