I’ll pay you $1.5 million to beat me.

This is embarrassing, but kind of funny. So, I watch (American) college football. The first week of the season the big schools always have the cupcake (bad or easy) football schools come visit to get their season started off on the right note with a win. Well, no school is going to subject their players to humiliation without incentive, so the big colleges pay the littles to basically come get beat. Except when a little school that could doesn’t follow the plan. Enter UMass, who was paid $1.5 million dollars to come play Rutgers, favored by 29 points. Rutgers was so sure they would win they planned a fireworks show afterwards. Only Rutgers lost on their home field by a good margin. And since it was already promised, they had to let off a fireworks show. After a LOSS. To an almost empty stadium because of it. Don’t you just love it when David slays Goliath?

Love an underdog story. Also is cupcake team a real phrase or is that your phrase? Either way I love it.

It’s a real term. I wish I was creative enough to think of it!

That almost backfired on Michigan, but they added stoppage time like they do in football (soccer). That’s usually what happens the first week or two in college football: the powerhouse teams play St. Joseph’s Poor Brothers of the Lame and Blind or something. Same thing in college basketball: Duke plays Rabbi Feinstein’s Retirement Home and Yeshiva or UNC goes up against Prosthetics Test College.

Yep, the cupcake schools get their slim chance to shine while making their schools a lot of money!

I do indeed love it when David beats Goliath. Good for that small school and I'm sure they thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks.
