Agent Orange: “I bet you slice into the woods. A hundred bucks.” Golfer: “Gambling is illegal at Kennedy, sir, and I never slice.” That’s my mountain bike, Agent Orange, taunting golfers at Kennedy Golf Course, a public muni located in Denver. My bike has obviously watched Caddyshack way too many times. I can’t get it to watch anything else. He was also taunting people trying to putt: “A thousand bucks you miss that putt!” (Orange can afford to bet such a sum. I cannot.) But seriously, Kennedy (named after John F. Kennedy) offers three 9-hole regulation courses, as well as a 9-hole par 3 course, a driving range, and a miniature golf course (which I had no idea existed until just now.) Back when I used to play golf (well, I was hitting a ball with a club, so I guess I was “playing,” albeit badly,) I used the driving range several times (if you are watching kids, they actually enjoy going there and whacking golf balls,) and played (again, badly) the par 3 a few times. Luckily, there was no mountain bike mocking us. Meanwhile, my bike thought it would be hilarious to blast some Journey while the golfers were teeing off. “So let’s dance!” I need to see if Orange will start watching Happy Gilmore instead.
