Fun Facts galore. This one has a few, I daresay. We are on our second song from a masterpiece film soundtrack today, and it’s an album that changed the way I listen to music. I started paying attention to how songs were built the more I listened. And I've been listening a long time. Fun Fact: When Isaac Hayes got involved with the 1971 film, Shaft, he was unaware that the role of John Shaft had already been cast (Richard Roundtree,) and was hoping to play the titular character himself. While he did appear in the movie in a cameo, more importantly, he was tapped to do the film’s soundtrack. “Do Your Thing” is one of Hayes’ famous extended psychedelic funk jams. The guitar solo is worth it alone, but the groovy beat should keep your interest if that’s not your thing. Fun Fact: When the album was released, it became the first double album of original material put out by an R&B artist. “Do Your Thing,” along with the “Theme from Shaft,” reached the Billboard Top 40. This is, again, an extended funk jam. How they managed to edit this down to radio time is beyond me. I’ve never bothered listening to it because I love the studio version so much. Fun Fact” The soundtrack was certified Platinum within a month of its release. Whatever you do, do your thing. Link is to the studio album version:

Isaac Hayes did an extended version of “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” so he was great at extended funk jams. King of chains!
