These knees of mine have suddenly started complaining!

Lately, I have been feeling quite a bit of knee pain, and honestly, I am starting to wonder where it came from.
One minute I am fine, and the next I am getting up from a chair or walking around thinking, “Who gave my knees permission to start behaving like this?”
Maybe I have been putting too much pressure on them, or perhaps this is just one of those things that starts showing up as we get older.
For those who have been around longer and have had similar experience, did knee pain become something you noticed more as you got older? And what has helped you manage it?
I would genuinely love to hear what has worked for you.

I'm older (63 this coming October) but still not old and have never been bothered with joint pain. I'm sorry your knees are bothering you. Have you talked to your doctor about the knee pain? What did your doctor suggest?

@septabchips You can also check for home remedies that might help, too.

@DaddyEvil That is true. I might look into some simple home remedies and see if anything helps before I start worrying too much about it. Thanks for the suggestion!

63 and no joint pain is something to be thankful for! I have not spoken to my doctor yet, as I was hoping the pain would settle, but I may have to if it continues.

Oh, I guess most of what you’ve mentioned can be factors for getting knee pain. Another one is weight—if you’re gaining, there’s a high chance your knees will start to ache because they can’t support the extra load. Related to that is diet; certain food groups can cause the cartilage in your knees to wear down, making movement more difficult or painful.

@septabchips better yet ask your doctor about it to properly guide you through your knee problems.

That is a good point about weight and diet. I had not really thought about how much extra pressure the knees can take from those things. I am definitely going to pay more attention to what I am eating and how much strain I am putting on them.

My brother-in-law lost weight, and his knees began to feel better. He was really overweight at the time though. My dad had knee problems due to old sports injuries. He puts something (a cream) called Icy Hot on them. They take away the pain, and you can just buy it at the store. He also takes a turmeric supplement sometimes, and it really helps as well.

That is interesting about your brother-in-law. It sounds like losing the extra weight really made a difference for his knees. I have heard of Icy Hot before, but I have never tried it. I might look into that and turmeric as well. Thanks for sharing what has worked for your family.

I can understand that. Weight can definitely put extra pressure on the knees. I hope you are able to reach your goal and that it helps with the pain too.

The Mister is having trouble with his knees too. He is older than you ....he just turned 60 last month.
He rubs cream on them and has started wearing special knee pads . It helps but does not take the pain away totally.

Oh, so the knees are starting to give him trouble too! It sounds like the cream and knee pads are helping at least a little, even if they are not getting rid of the pain completely. I hope they continue to give him some relief.

I don't have knee pain but my mom has arthritis in her right knee and she sometimes is in a lot of pain. I have been doing acupressure on her knee to help her with the pain. She is also taking collagen powder. She takes turmeric too. She said when she gets her rest her knee doesn't hurt as bad.

It sounds like your mum has found a few things that give her some relief. I like that you are helping her with the acupressure too. It is interesting how much difference proper rest can make when the knee is already hurting.

Ugh. I have "mild osteoarthritis" in my right knee, and my left knee is doing something I'm not sure of. Sometimes it's feels like my right knee is going to completely give out. I've used creams like BenGay, and take Ibuprofen (though the first one seems to work better for me.)

You are right, I probably should. I have been hoping it would settle down on its own, but if it keeps bothering me I will get it checked.
