Well, hello, Agent Gravel! That’s a photo of my gravel bike with the Infinity sculpture, located outside of Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, home of the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Mammoth Indoor Lacrosse team, and venue for concerts, circuses, and monster truck rallies. What does that have to do with infinity? Did you know that aluminium can be recycled indefinitely? The Ball Corporation, the company with the naming rights to the arena, is really big on recycling - they have been for more than 100 years. The Infinity sculpture was commissioned by the company to show their commitment to recycling. Ironically, the sculpture is not made from aluminium. Denver-based Scherer Metals (themselves over 120 years in business,) who was commissioned by Ball to make the sculpture, advised against using aluminium. The company advised stainless steel (also 100% recyclable) due to its being easier to keep clean in an outdoor environment. Recycling an aluminium can requires 95%-less energy than it does to make a can out of virgin material, and recycling can save consumers nearly .10 cents per can. If you recycle a can today, it can be back in your refrigerator within 60 days. The aluminium recycling industry creates roughly 450,000 jobs worldwide.
