At the age of four I was feeling a bit like a dog on a short lease. Living in an apartment, there was not much space to really take some action. Whenever it was time to go to the park, I made sure I had all the essentials with me like a ball for throwing and some toys for playing with, so it didn’t matter how fast I ran. One day my mom took me to visit some other children, and they had a plastic horse that you rode attached to steel spirals so you could bounce real good. Anyway, I tried riding the horse and unfortunately bounced a bit too high and fell off. That was it; I didn’t want such a horse. We went to visit another child who had a wooden rocking horse. Now that I liked it, but my mom said that the horse with the long rockers took up too much room, and most likely I would wind up knocking something off of a shelf and breaking it. Finally we met up with the donkey you see in the picture. It wasn’t very big, it was on wheels, and I thought it was just perfect. Unfortunately, as things turned out, this donkey was imported from somewhere and much too expensive for my parents. It was back to my tea parties with my stuffed animals.
