If you go by bus in Indonesia you gonna see a red hammer like this. It is attached to the body of the bus beside the window. The hammer is used to break the window in case of emergency like fire or accident so the passenger can escape when the door is locked. In a bus there are several hammers. This rule is a must. The main cause of this rule is about 20 years ago there was an accident which lead to fire that cause all of the passengers died. They were students from a school in a trip.

I don’t trust having those hammers in the bus here in the United States. Too many mentally ill people ride the bus not to get tempted to use them for nefarious reasons.
