On to the next big thing. In 1985, Lindsey Buckingham was working on his 3rd solo album. He had amassed 50 songs to choose from, one of which, “Big Love,” was slated for use on said record. Fleetwood Mac was also working on Tango in the Night during that time, so Buckingham had a choice to make. He chose to bring “Big Love” with him for the band’s album, shelving his own project for the time being. The track you hear is, essentially, Buckingham’s demo, which the band decided to use largely unaltered. In fact, Stevie Nicks only appears on a 12” single version of the song. The catchy “Oh Ah” parts were all recorded solely by Buckingham, who ran his voice through a speed oscillator to get different voices. The girl you hear? Lindsey Buckingham. The single merely charted in 12 countries, reaching the Top 20 in all but one of those, and Top 10 in 6 of them. It is certified Platinum in New Zealand and Gold in the U.K. Not too shabby for a demo. Link is to the official promotional video:
