I'm Trying Dark Chocolate

You all know that I have a chocolate addiction that I'm trying to kick. Someone suggested trying dark chocolate to try to wean off of it altogether. Allegedly dark chocolate is less bad for you and may contain a few helpful attributes. So I picked up two bars today. I forgot that it was suggested to buy a vegan dark chocolate bar. I tried the Cadbury first. It was really good. I thought I had misjudged dark chocolate all of these years. Then I tried the Ghirardelli. It was AWFUL! Yuck! So now I'm looking at them both and wondering how they're different. The Cadbury says "semi-sweet dark chocolate." Is that why it tastes better? It was a sweetness to it? Do you like dark chocolate?

@looeyville I much prefer dark chocolate to light and fluffy milk stuff. And it is good for you if you don’t eat too much of it.

I thought you had weaned yourself off chocolate. I don’t think that Cadbury’s Royal Dark is available in the UK, and I’ve never heard of the other brand. I love dark chocolate, but I usually buy it with around 65% cacao. 92% is more like cooking chocolate and not nice on its own.

I love all kinds of chocolate but lately have it only on donuts or cakes. The Walmart brand Great Value has a good dark chocolate bar,

We used to have a Mylot member who took the fact that dark chocolate is better for you than regular chocolate and ran with it. She insisted you could eat as much as you wanted, and it was all good. Then, she was surprised when she’d gain weight. Of course, they have good health qualities, but not in large amounts!

Yeah semi sweet is basically dark chocolate with more sugar so it tastes closer to milk chocolate, that's probably why you liked the Cadbury better. Ghirardelli dark can be way more bitter depending on the percentage on the bar. I like dark chocolate but only certain ones, some brands just taste burnt to me lol.
