Most people stress about money and paying the bills. Most couples fight over those bills. My greatest frustration, is trying to explain the online ordering process to a brain that's older, damaged from a stroke, understand the concept and process, without allowing him go down the rabbit hole and hear him say 'I want that', and then over 100 dollar's gone before I can blink.
George isn't stupid. He understands how money works, but he's been letting me manage the household since we got together. We talked bi weekly who paid what and who's money went where. Now it's different and I'm responsible for it all. I'll tell him I pad this or I paid that, because I know he'll remember it. But I also have to put my foot down and point out, we need to stop, take a breath, and not get lost on the endless scroll.

I used to before the stroke, now he just gets confused and takes longer to process.

My son said just last night that being the single handed caregiver has got to be the most draining thing to do. I have done it, you are doing it. You are doing the right thing, and that is sometimes hard.

It isn't easy. Right now he doesn't need a whole lot of help and is capable of driving and doing daily tasks. However, he doesn't write down anything anymore, because he doesn't want to. He couldn't without pratice. And, he'd rather say it's a lost cause then try. When we were at the Dmv, I had to guide his hand, and put the pen in the white box so he could sign his name.

How about trying out a small notepad and shwoing George how to list what was bought and paid for telling him you need to keep track of money and then making sure he keeps up that list and maybe when he sees what is coming in and going out he might understand better, BTW did you get myLot money?

That sounds so hard honestly, watching someone you love struggle like that while you carry it all alone. George is lucky he has you fighting for both of you even when he cant see it that way. Sending you strength, the scrolling rabbit hole gets all of us but with a stroke its ten times worse.

Yeah, I know. And it's harder then it looks. He has moments he forgets his brain is different and tries to do things. I had to remind him he never learned to type. While I've been typing since middle school.
