Let's Look at Narcissism

The definition of narcissism is a person who has an excessive interest in oneself or one's appearance. But it also includes a personality of selfishness, a lack of empathy, a feeling of entitlement, and a need for admiration. They display an inflated sense of self-importance with an exploitative behavior, and a sensitivity to criticism. This person is self-involved and self-serving. That is why many serial killers are diagnosed with this type of personality. Most people have some amount of empathy and feeling of social responsibility. Narcissists have none of that. To live inside the mind of a narcissist you turn off all those human emotions. You just don't feel and have no thought for others. We as 'normal humans' find it difficult, if not impossible, to fathom someone like this. You might even think of narcissism as being the opposite of a normal human but that would not be true. The narcissist is merely a personality trait or condition that exists on a spectrum, with most people showing some degree of narcissistic traits, with only extreme cases meeting the criteria for narcissistic personality disorder. For the most part we all value ourselves, seek recognition and usually feel confident in our abilities but it is the extreme of these traits that lends into a persistent grandiosity, attention-seeking, and impaired empathy that is then categorized as NPD.
