The photo shows a buff Orpington chook (chicken if you’re American!). There are also bantam Orpingtons which are very cute. I’ve seen many more of the bantam Orpingtons so the size of this hen surprised me. She was quite big. The Poultry Club of Great Britain recognises seven colours: black, white, buff, blue, cuckoo, jubilee and spangled. They are always fluffy. This hen belongs to my nephew’s friend and should have been going to the Perth Royal Show but all poultry classes have been cancelled because of the risk of bird flu.

That buff Orpington looks massive, way bigger than the bantams I'm used to seeing. Shame about the show getting cancelled though, bird flu is really messing things up this year. Such a fluffy pretty hen, your nephew's friend must be proud of her.

Probably not a bad idea to cancel with all the bird flu you have written about. Don't want to lose your prize hen.
