Do you spend time for yourself every day?

Hello Mylotters! I have heard this saying in several inspiring videos online: when you fill your cup first thing in the morning, you can help others fill theirs. I strongly believe in this. When we spend time for ourselves, when we actually take care of ourselves, when we make some effort for ourselves as much as we do for others in our lives, when we finally make up our minds to do something for our personal growth and well-being without feeling guilty, things start to shift for the better. I personally believe this is applicable to all areas of life. Earlier, I used to feel so guilty for taking time out for my yoga. I don't know what made me feel that way. As a result, I would sometimes skip a few sessions or practice without being fully mindful. That, in turn, had an effect on my everyday life — I would get annoyed easily for not being able to do what I liked. I would sometimes unintentionally show that disappointment to others in my life. Thankfully, that's a thing of the past. Now, I happily enjoy my one-hour yoga session, fully present, without any regret. And, of course, I feel grateful for it. Do you spend time for yourself every day? What practices in life give you that contented feeling of having done something good for yourself? Have you ever felt guilty about taking some time out of the day for yourself? Do share your thoughts below. Have a nice time! Image Courtesy: Google.

When my daughter was little, I felt guilty when I went to the gym or read a book. My daughter was my life back then. Now, my daughter is 38 years old and I don't NEED to spend my time taking care of her. I can't work out anymore (I get dizzy and could fall off the workout bench.) but I can still spend time reading books if I want.

I can see why you felt guilty when your daughter was little. When children are young, they can easily become your whole world. Now that she is 38, you have definitely earned the right to sit down with a good book without feeling guilty.

The world of little ones is completely dependent on us. So, it's completely understandable about the guilt feeling that peeks in naturally as we think about taking out time for ourselves. Now that you've free time please enjoy reading books and doing everything that you love to.

I really like the idea of filling your own cup first. I think when we constantly put ourselves last, it eventually affects our mood and how we treat the people around us. Taking a little time for yourself is not selfish.

Absolutely! But we come to this understanding only a little later. Having said that — "Better late than never" and I believe that's a win in some way. We should be our top priority and as you stated, taking a few minutes for ourselves from twenty four hours each day is not a thing to feel guilty about. We should have some "me time" otherwise when we look back only disappointment will be left.

@Teekaaa I agree. Sometimes it takes us a while to realise that looking after ourselves is not something we should feel guilty about. Even a little “me time” can make a big difference, and you are right, we should not wait until we look back with regrets.

@septabchips exactly! I don't know what's making us to think "so much" about taking "so little time" for ourselves!

If I don’t spend my mornings talking to God, I don’t have my full potential available throughout the day. I have more to offer when I fill my mornings with the Holy Spirit.

I feel you, Amber! When we are used to doing something, even a day off feels something else. That feeling is quite different. We may not be able put certain things in words but our system remembers them well and until we complete that routine it will nudge or hint us in unusual ways.

This is so true, I used to feel guilty too for taking time out for myself. Now I try to do something small daily even if it's just 20 minutes of quiet before everyone wakes up. Glad you found your peace with the yoga thing, that discipline is not easy to keep.
