Has anybody noticed fewer vehicles on the road?

Due to the crazy gas prices, which are only predicted to get worse..maybe 6 or 7 dollars per gallon they say, I noticed a lot fewer cars today in the small city where the Sharp Shopper is located. Normally, on a Saturday there which is generally when I go to that store it is full of cars doing errands, going out to eat,,sporting events what have you..but today seemed like less than half the volume. I know because I always have terrible trouble trying to make my turn to the north because of the volume and today..it was all very smooth. Now, when I got close to this area, it seemed about the same as usual..a long string of cars coming up to the bigger town from the interstate..about the same volume of usual..I predict though if gas gets over 5 per gallon..the lack of traffic will be noticeable. What do you think?

I hope so but I don't seem to notice that here even when the price of gas is extremely high now.
I think they really don't care that much.

@snowy22315 Oh it's high enough here. We are currently at $6 per gallon now and price will increase by Tuesday again. It increases every Tuesday of the week.

Today is a bad day to judge because of the OU game. The day of a game, the traffic is awful except for the three hours of the actual game when no one is out at all.
And Oklahoma City is always so busy no matter what. But my dad would know better than me. There isn’t a day he’s not traveling.

This gas crisis may impact holiday traffic. I doubt I am going to be going anywhere if the gas is 6 or 7 bucks per gallon. Friend's car is really good on gas though..has the same mileage as a hybrid..but 150 bucks for a car trip is a lot and the airlines are charging more and cutting back on flights.We will have to wait and see what happens.

Hybrids are OK...friend had one before but if their battery goes bad it is very expensive to replace.

Yeah I think you're right, once gas hits that 5 dollar mark people start cutting back fast. It happens here too, when fuel prices go up everybody just starts managing their trips more, no more unnecessary driving. It's wild how price alone can empty out a whole town like that.

Really not a lot of cars out there. The boat traffic on the lake is way down too.

I don't think it'll get that bad here in my corrner of the Sunshine state. It's never gone higher than 4 dollars, although larger cities it's been holding around 5 already. I guess it depends on where you live and where the oil comes from as to how much it'll cost.

My husband and I returned from vacation today and had to travel through downtown Atlanta Georgia and I kid you not, we got in a traffic jam so bad, it delayed us 30 minutes. Gas prices has not kept people off downtown Atlanta highways. It is sickening. The bumper to bumper traffic is awful.

When on the interstates around here, no real difference. But many in outlying towns and villages work in the city so they have to get there somehow. On the state highway I use, it’s the same. Where son and I are noticing a lack of cars is restaurants. Even at lunchtime or dinner, there are not very many cars in those parking lots.
