Taking clothes to the outback

Donnybrook, Western Australia, where we once lived had the two op shops/thrift stores. One was run by the Red Cross. It was always neat, tidy and well-run by volunteers. The other one filled the old railway goods sheds and was a mish-mash of just about anything you could imagine from clothes, books, furniture, china and much more. A recent news article revealed the second one is run by an 84-year-old lady who regularly fills her van with donated clothes and blankets, and travels thousands of kilometres to outback areas to gift the items to indigenous communities, refuges and other worthy organisations. Barb Carroll grew up in the Pilbara area and is part-aboriginal. A surplus of donated clothing led her to travel to remote communities to donate the items. She prefers to travel on her own and also manages to get home.
