pizza day as a kid/school lunches

I'm going to get controversial for a second. I know everyone (at least in the US) is talking about how school pizza day was the best day of the week as a kid. I see posts everywhere talking about how amazing school pizza was, and I'm going to be completely honest. I thought school pizza was the worst. I hated school pizza. I thought the cheese was disgusting. I used to take off the cheese sometimes and eat it cheeseless if I didn't feel like ordering Peanut butter and jelly. I also found it weird that it was served with corn. It wasn't even good corn. It was basically just chewing flavorless, yellow, hard objects. I also hated chocolate milk and still do. Only US school cafeterias think that pizza, corn, milk, and applesauce make a meal. I will never forget when I got to Jr. high, and they had Papa John's pizza, and 12 year old me was excited. You mean we got REAL pizza? OK, yes, calling Papa John's pizza real pizza if we are talking about Italian pizza might be a stretch, but in comparison to school pizza, it was practically gourmet. We also got it with salad or fries. I was in heaven. I'm not saying all US school food is terrible. I still have a special place in my heart for some of it. Taco day was one of my favorites. I remember throwing up at school and lying in the nurse's office because my dad wasn't answering when the school called him, and the teacher took pity on me and had a student ask if I wanted to go to lunch and recess. I felt like trash, but it was taco day, so I made allowances because it was tacos. I still felt like trash after eating it, but at least it was still delicious. I would have rather gone home, but if I had to be stuck at school feeling like poop, at least I had tacos. I also loved Fiestadas, which we refer to as Mexican pizza. The cheese on them tasted far better than on the little nasty rectangular pizzas (in my humble opinion). Don't get me started on how amazing Bosco sticks and chicken nuggets were. I hated the mashed potatoes that were usually served alongside the nuggets, but I never ate them. I used to get some sort of fruit to go alongside that I ate instead. Every meal was served with milk, whether it had any business going with what we were having or not. I used to sometimes get a juice as my side and give my milk to someone else. Sometimes I'd drink the milk, but I never got chocolate milk. I don't like flavored milk at all. I once had an unfortunate experience with a carton of strawberry milk on a hot summer day in a car with no AC; I guzzled it down, and it didn't sit right. To this day, I won't go near the stuff. I'm sure we all had favorite school lunches growing up, at least those of us in the US. I don't know what they serve in other countries. I've seen some school lunches served in other countries, and they look better than what we have here, but all I know is what I was raised with. What was your favorite school lunch growing up?
