Too Old!!

Three years ago my husband started the job at our village as a Superintendent II. The Superintendent I had retired 3 times, but when he would quit they could never hire anyone or they would hire someone and they wouldn't last. Last year; however, when my husband started work there the Superintendent showed my husband the ropes and 2 years later they had the Superintendent I position open. Instead of offering it to my husband they hired some one younger!!! They even in public forum stated that they were "Sorry, but my husband was too old for the positiont!!!"
The new Superintendent mainly just does "paperwork" and my husband does most of the physical labor work at 61 years of age!!! He's too old to be the Superintendent job, even though he has been there 3 years and as the Superintendent has told him, he can now take time off to see his children in sports events and he knows my husband will take care of any problem by himself should it arise.
Every month my husband walks 17 miles to read the meters while the young Superintendent drives his route!!! It just irritates me, that the board thinks he's too old to be a boss, but not too old to do ALL the physical work. People notice that my husband is the only person they see working!!!
Wonder if my husband could sue the village for age discrimination as it was said in a public forum and there are records of it?

Age discrimination needs to be taken more seriously
If anyone said I was too old to do anything I would be really pissed off and i am 65

I think it is not merit system. In merit system people are promoted for what they do. It is unfair

Your husband should sue the village for age discrimination.

That is straight up unfair, saying he's too old for the desk job but fine for 17 miles of walking every month don't add up. I'd be irritated too, honestly sounds like age discrimination the way they said it out loud in public. Hope your husband gets some real recognition soon, he deserves better than that.
