New cat in the house.

My cat-addicted wife said, when me moved to our current house, that she would love to have another cat and this surprised me not. She doesn’t like being catless. What did surprise me was her declaration that she wouldn’t go looking for a new cat, but if one turned up she wouldn’t say no. So one has turned up. Our granddaughter told us that her mother (not our daughter or daughter-in-law, long and miserable story) needed to re-home one of her cats. She tentatively asked if my wife would be interested and the cat now lives with us as of yesterday. She’s a bit of an oddity really. We know that she’s at least 10 years old but might be 14, and her succession of owners kept dying quite suddenly on her and that’s how she ended up with our granddaughter’s mother. Thankfully we’re not superstitious. She’s an odd shape, short and stocky, with a very boxy looking front end and odd hind quarters upon which no fur grows. And she’s very heavy on her feet. Most cats creep about noiselessly, but Spoon (I know!) can be heard walking heavily across the carpet. She’s difficult to photograph, and seems to sense it when I try to get her on camera and lies down so concealing her oddness of shape. However she’s lovely. House trained and doesn’t miaow. She likes to curl up beside whoever’s on the sofa without climbing up on them and is endearing in all her ways. I’ll try to get a photo.
