My Notes on starting the French Horn.

I was thinking about starting a new instrument in addition to the others that I play and teach. I had a student on guitar, but then she wanted the Darbuka (a kind of drum) and then quit entirely. Then I went to a teacher's training at the Conservatory here in Israel, and they had a French Horn teacher to show us some techniques for classroom management and introducing a new instrument to the students. I liked it, and I bought the Tibetian chimes to cut through the noise of a class to help them be quiet,. And I really like the sound of the French horn and we got to play them as well. It took a month to make up my mind and another month to get the instrument. It is a beginner's Bb/F horn, and since I already play flute, clarinet, saxophone, mandoline etc. . I find it is very different just keeping the note. It depends mostly on the lips, many notes use the same fingering. . . So maybe by next year I will be ready to teach. BTW when I want to tap my foot, it is better to tap the left foot as the right foot is supporting the instrument. . . Saxophone I taught while I was learning it since I already played clarinet for 20 years. . Here are some notes on the French Horn: Have you started to play a new musicial instrument lately? Which one? Post a video!
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

That's so cool you picked up French horn, honestly the lip control thing sounds way harder than fingering. I only ever managed to stick with piano and even that took me forever to get past the basics. No new instrument for me lately but this makes me wanna try again lol.

For sure try again, if you still have it. I checked AI and original music is still safe from AI takover.

How much time did you play the piano? What level did you get to? I play a bit, enough to teach for a kid in 2nd grade.

@lifecoachjerusalem Just started really, maybe a year on and off. I can play simple stuff with both hands now but nothing fancy, definitely still fumbling through scales lol. That's cool you can teach a bit already, I'm nowhere near that level yet.

You look really comfortable in that video with the French horn. I’m just so amazed you can play so many instruments! I played the piano for 12 years growing up, but I don’t remember most of it. My sister plays the piano and flute, and still gives lessons. She had a saxophone, but she never really got into the lessons so my dad sold it. I bet you’re a great teacher.

The French horn has a beautiful tone but I believe it isn't easy to master. Once you've learnt it and the fingering, I'm guessing you'd be able to move on to a number of brass instruments if you wanted to.
