Last month, I wrote about Stacey Duffy, an Australian cyclist who broke the Australia Record, for fastest unsupported circumference of Australia on a bicycle. This is about a male Australian cyclist who is going for a different endurance record. Lachlan Morton, (who has done the Australian circumnavigation) is a professional cyclist who rides, at the moment, for EF Education First - Easy Post (he has announced that he is leaving the team.) In addition to racing, Morton also does cycling endurance attempts on his own. In just two days, Lachlan Morton will set off from St. Joseph, Missouri in an attempt to break the record for the Pony Express route. That’s 3,164 kilometers, or 1,964 miles. He is trying to beat the horses (the record was the delivery of President Lincoln’s Inaugural Address, 7 days, 17 hours.) Morton will be using three different bikes (based upon terrain) to keep the original practice of changing horses going, and will even carry letters to get the full experience. He will face many tough stretches that he will have to ride unsupported. The route passes through six states, ending in Sacramento, California. Go Lachlan! Link is to an interview with Morton after he won the 2026 3 Peaks Cyclcross race:

That is Pretty cool I lived in Wellsville, Missouri and Lawrence, Kansas, that is about as close to St.Joseph I ever went, but seem like the adults always talked about the place and now I live in California. He starts where I started and he will end where I will end. Come on that was funny. Am I being to ego centric. Blame my leader of the so called free world. He makes me feel more selfish everyday. For real sounds fun and challenging and the heat is crazy this time of year and data centers using all the water. Tell homie to be careful. Its near 100 under or over here next 2 weeks and its October. Not even hear in this part of California is that normal.

@teamfreak16 That would be smarter and safer, I am not sure his route going North, could be a bit better, but its hot out west.

He's got to come through Colorado. We're in the 80's.

@crossbones27 - It also gets cold at night. He's going to be camping a few times.

Good for him. Let’s hope he doesn’t meet any hostile people. I guess that is politically incorrect but there you go.

I know. I can't imagine. 50-ish miles in one day is enough for me, and I don't go out and do it again the next day.

Good luck with that! Especially unsupported. I am all for easy stages and stopping overnight with a comfy bed!

Oh, he'll have support, but apparently there will be some stretches where he won't.
