Danger! High Voltage! - "Electrical Storm"

This is it, the final electric song. The power has been cut off (apparently they don’t accept music series’ as payment. ) We’re headed back to 2002, when Irish superstars U2 recorded two new songs for their compilation album, The Best of 1990 - 2000. “Electrical Storm” was one of those songs. The song, which vocalist Bono wrote about the tension in a relationship in which a couple does not get along, exists in two versions. Both versions were produced by the late William Orbit, but the “band” version was mixed by Carl Glanville, while the “William Orbit Mix” version was mixed by, well, William Orbit. It was the “William Orbit Mix” that was released as a single. The song was a massive success, charting in 25 countries, Top 10 in 20 of those (and #1 in four of those!) Despite this, the band didn’t play it live until 2009, when they played it William Orbit-style during one show each in Spain, Italy, and Sweden. Link is to the “William Orbit Mix” version, the definitive version, as far as I’m concerned:

I wonder how I like U2, but I’d never heard of this song.

For some reason, it didn't chart well here (#77.) So you might not have heard it.

Plus U2 has not put out music for years. I could be wrong I will defer to my boy Scott on that, but U2 is a band if they put out a new song, I would jump at taking a look.

Our son and his jazz group played background music for Bono's New Years Eve party one year. Nothing like a bit of name-dropping, don't you think?

@teamfreak16 He plays it down and says it was background music and they were plunked in a corner. I think they were paid quite well. Vince never mentions that bit! the bit about plunked in a corner, I mean. He did one gig with Van Morrison and I wrote about that. If you search 'Van Morrison' on here, it's a very funny story.

Hard to believe but U2 has been around for 50 years now.

Electrical Storm is one of those U2 songs I forget about until I hear it again. Funny that they waited until 2009 to play it live after it did so well. Sad to see the electric series end, I enjoyed this one.
