I was planning on using this song, but not necessarily this morning. However, with yesterday's news that R&B singer Freddie Jackson had passed away on October 5th, I’ve moved it up in the rotation. Freddie Jackson was born in Harlem in 1957, growing up singing gospel. His first professional gig was as lead vocalist for a California funk band, Mystic Merlin (they put out three studio albums in case you’re interested in tracking them down.) His solo career started as a demo singer for the man who would become his producer and songwriting partner, Paul Laurence, and as a backup singer for Melba Moore. In 1985, Jackson released his debut album, Rock Me Tonight, which contained “You Are My Lady.” The slow jam reached #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but also crossed over into the mainstream, reaching #13 on the Hot 100, Jackson’s highest-charting single of his career. I used to play this song quite a lot on the radio. R.I.P., Freddie. Link is to the official promotional video:

That's strange. This is in my period of music interest, but I've not heard this one before

It fits into an Adult Contemporary format. You'd have to listen to that station.

@AmbiePam - It fit our station's format like a glove, so we played it a lot.

What a great song. I guess Freddie will feature on FourWalls obituaries pretty soon.

Unfortunately, yes, he will. It's one of my favorite 80's ballads.

Sad news about Freddie Jackson, his voice on "You Are My Lady" was so smooth. Didn't know he started out singing gospel, that explains a lot. Thanks for moving it up today, it was a nice way to remember him.
