My nose was cold when I woke this morning. Autumn air had crept into the bedroom through the open window, and it had brought with it the gardeny smell of decaying leaves.
The temperature was just above freezing when I stepped outside to inspect the pots where last week I planted garlic. They were intact after the onslaught of last night’s roaring wind. I’ll move them to a more sheltered spot later.
Coffee, a little bit of toast, then down to the pool beside the shore for a swim.
A drive to the next town along the coast where there’s a supermarket that rewards me with points towards free flights to nice places - I’ve more than enough for a jaunt to anywhere in Europe.
Garden rubbish needs to go to the dump and clothes no longer required need to return to the charity shop from whence they came.
Reading to do. Zosimov the doctor had just arrived to examine the fever stricken murderer Raskalnikov and Mr Luzhin interrupts the examination. This is perhaps the 20th time I’ve read Crime and Punishment. It’s a more recent translation than the one I usually read and it strikes a lighter tone. I’m not sure if I like it.
What do you have planned for today?

We need to get groceries. Usually we walk as it's not far at all but we're likely to get rained on today so we might drive. If we do, we'll stock up a bit more than usual. We have to watch the weight if we have to carry stuff home.
