Firefighters from the Johnson County Consolidated Fire District answered an emergency call from the owner of an iguana that was stuck in a tree for about a week.
The firefighters were able to rescue the iguana who is nine years old and named Tasslehoff by using a ladder truck and a catch pole and return the iguana to his owner who was happy that the firefighters rescued her pet iguana.
Firefighters normally rescue cats who are in trees. Rescuing an iguana is something new for them.

The iguana is likely an invasive species.

Most likely that iguanas are an invasive species.

In Kansas, and Oklahoma for that matter, iguanas cannot survive the colder months. They are not invasive in those states. People get them as exotic pets. I do not know why.

I guess that this iguana was the exception.

I am sure Kansas firefighters don't see many inguanas in their area.

I am sure that in Kansas iguana sightings are rare.

Tasselhoff would never survive the Kansas winters. I am glad they rescued him.
