Singing Saved my Back

I have a client that I have been very anxious to visit as she has a habit of sliding on her chair and for the 2 visits I’ve had with her I always end up with a board like painful back. Today I visited her begrudgingly as my manager did not take me off the shift despite my request. As anxious as I was to see her I still maintained professionalism and kindness. I took her out to get some sun in the garden and we hit a break through. I can’t believe I am saying this but today singing saved my back. I sang along for 1 hour and 30 minutes with my restless client and she was less fidgety. She stayed on her chair without needing constant repositioning. My throat was dry at the end of the shift but I was happy and she seems happy too. She enjoyed the singing so much. Although today is a good day, I still maintain that I want to stop seeing her because I could still hurt my back on the next couple of visits. I really would rather not. But I am grateful for God and music for today.

If I sang for even a minute and a half, the client would be asking for a replacement. My singing is bad!

@Orson_Kart sang “Amazing Grace” 4 times and “How Great Thou Art” twice. Along with the usual old songs like “You are my Sunshine”.

@flapiz Were you singing the same song over and over for the whole hour and a half, or did you have a prepared song list? Or were you taking requests? Do you know “Roll out the barrel”?

That was nice, but you are right and need to look after your own health too. You may have to go over that manager's head to get your shift changed. It should have been taken care of by your manager.

My resolve is if they still book me in there next week I will quit. Because it is not good that they don’t respect my boundaries at this early stage. It can only get worst.

That makes me upset with your manager. You’re physically putting yourself at risk when that is not part of your job requirement. All of that a side, I’m thrilled you found a way to keep your client’s attention enough to keep them from sliding down in their chair. You’re going to need tea with some honey to keep your voice going! Keep us updated!

Yes I was really upset as well. As it was difficult for me to even voice out my concerns in the first place. If I complain about something it is usually for a reason. But I think God saw my distress and gave me a good day. Still hoping to get out of this shift.
