She rang me up and wanted to give me £200,000

I have just had a scam caller. Apparently the lady was calling from ‘ Loans2Go ‘ ( I think a more appropriate name would be ‘ Scams2Go ‘ ). She wanted to give me £200,000 and said I didn’t need to pay any interest for 6 months. That was nice of her ……or, was it ! I told her I thought she was trying to get me into debt. “ Oh no Madam….i am trying to help you “. I asked her HOW she was trying to help me ? She said by giving me £200,000 and if my credit rating was no good she could sort that too. ( how kind ). I told her she didn’t know me, my situation or financial circumstances, yet she wanted to give me £200,000. My credit rating was good ( thank you ) and I wasn’t in need of any money, I hadn’t gone to her , she had phoned me and offered me a lot of money, which potentially could get me into a lot of debt. I asked her if she thought that was a very responsible thing to do. The line went quiet. In the end she said “ have a nice day “ and hung up. I wish something could be done to stop all this……

It’s such a shame people fall for these things. I often wonder exactly who does fall for that nonsense in this day and age.

@Traceyjayne My stepmom’s late father fell for a $250 scam over the phone, which is when she took over his finances and no longer left him in charge of his own bank account. Luckily, he was agreeable enough not to be offended. Because when you’re falling for a phone scam, it’s time to let someone else be in charge.

@AmbiePam that’s true, but they are so friendly and make out that they are doing you a favour ..I can see how people can fall for it.

@AmbiePam. It makes me wonder too, but I.guess some will fall for it otherwise they wouldn’t bother with the phone calls. I worry about not only people who genuinely do need help with money issues, but also the elderly. Who may just see it as kindness and helpfulness. I’m not sure what can be done but I do wish there was a way of stopping this sort of thing.

If that was a genuine offer you could take the money, put it in a decent savings account paying 5% interest and in 6 months earn £5,000 interest. Then you pay the capital back before having to make any payments I wouldn't dare take it on though

@Fleura actually that’s great idea. Although, i’m sure when the time came there would be some small print ( only able to be seen by a flea, it would be that tiny )that would say you could only pay a certain amount off each month …..thus making you HAVE to keep the loan and HAVE to pay a ridiculous amount of interest ….

For sure a scam and I hate all the calls that come through here. Blocking doesn't help because they have so many numbers that they can still call from. Ugg.

Someone who would agree to something like this could get themselves into a lot of trouble,

@RasmaSandra ….i think that’s what they are hoping for. Then they offer you another deal ….and so it goes on ….

If you agreed, the scammer would have asked for your bank account number and next she would have emptied your savings.

Maybe you should screen calls. I never pick up until hearing who it is. It's dangerous to speak to these people because your voice can be recorded for nefarious reasons.

@JohnRoberts. ….i am careful and if it says scam I don’t pick up ….unless I want some fun and cause mischief.sometimes it’s just a number, it could be something to do with my Mom so I have to answer . I never say yes or no as I know they use that to scam you.

Knock on wood..I think the scammers have gotten tired of trying to suck me in. They haven't rung me lately at all.

@traceyjayne We can understand how some person in serious debt might be tempted. A lot of calls I get on my mobile are helpfully identified as either "likely scam" or "likely nuisance" so I don't answer. But on a good/bad day I do sometimes answer and sing to the caller.

We all know by now that nothing is for free and that certainly was a scam and not some generous person offering you all that money. It's doubly sad when there are some people who might fall for this scam.

Scams2Go is a perfect name for them, I laughed at that one. Good on you for asking her all those questions, the quiet on the line says it all. I wish they would stop too, these calls never end.
