I Talked To My Old High School Friend

I posted last night about how I ran into my old high school best friend’s aunt and uncle at the pub where I was playing music bingo. Like I told you yesterday, she’s not the most socially outgoing person so I went ahead and gave her a phone call and just got off the phone with her We talked for 40 minutes and had a really good conversation and got a tiny bit caught up in each other’s lives. We do plan to get together after my trip and after my eye surgery sometime in November. My poor friend has been through the wringer. Now I can’t remember if she was age 30 or age 40 but she had a really bad stroke and couldn’t continue to work. I think she was 30 because her son was still very young. She wasn’t paralyzed, but just a little “off” and her jerk of a husband left her. A few years later, she had to have brain surgery. Then a few years after that, she had a heart attack. Then a few years after that, she crashed her car headfirst into a tree. And apparently during Covid she had breast cancer. So yeah, trouble seems to follow her. Then, as if she didn’t have enough drama in her life her now 32 year-old son who would’ve been 26 at the time quit his job in 2020 and moved himself and his girlfriend into my friend’s house with a promise of driving her to all of her cancer appointments and taking care of her. She says he never took her to any appointment and never really took care of her. But the son and his girlfriend and their three children are now living in her basement and neither the son, nor the girlfriend have worked in more than six years and don’t intend on working. I can’t imagine how emotionally exhausting that would be. So I’m glad that we reconnected and we’ll see what happens from here

It sounds like you could be a real encouragement. I’m glad you two got to chat. One of my high school friends contacted me when I was around 35, and we became best friends for a good 8 years. We even went to Branson, Missouri together a couple of times. Hopefully, you two can be real friends to each other. Heaven knows you could use someone to treat you right, friend wise.
