L.A. Songs: Rock’n Me

We are staying in the mid-70s for some more great music as we look at that mention Los Angeles. First, I have to offer my condolences to the Dodgers fans after they were swept by the Brewers last night. They’ve had a great run this decade, and it’s not over. Neither is this countdown of songs! Here’s today’s song. Rock’n Me - Steve Miller Band Speaking of great runs, boy, did Steve Miller have a great run in the 70s! Fly Like an Eagle is still on my playlist. Miller has always borrowed/stolen riffs (funny, in jazz they call it “quoting,” in rock they call it plagiarism ), and the opening guitar riff sounds like a sped-up “All Right Now” by Free. Billboard magazine, even made the argument that the “I went from Phoenix Arizona” line was a nod to the Eagles’ “Take It Easy.” It’s a fun, summer, top-down song that’s kept the party going for 50 years now.
